First of all, how often, or when do you know to replace the snare side head? Will a 2 mil head wear out quicker than the 3 mil? Given that the EC frosted reverse dot is quite a thick head, is it even wise to go for the 2 mil? I will be hitting the drum quite hard. I will be tuning the drum pretty low, lower than i would typically pitch even a 14 inch drum.
I'm really only thinking of the 2 mil because i havnt done it before, ive just always gone for the 3 mil. Maybe a 5 mil will better suit this top head and the hard hitting? I do much ghosting as well. Would love to hear thoughts about how these compare. IMO the reason you go to a thinner snare side head is if you are in a situation where you have to play quietly and sensitively, like in orchestral work.
